The Battle of Hogwarts

A great big castle looms in the night

A glorious, imperial, but forlorn sight

Not a merry voice rings up to the rugged crest of the mountain

But laments, tears, and more at their kith and kin’s destruction

The air is rent with sobs and screams

Of misery, death, of crushed dreams

Hogwarts castle shines in the dark

Its occupants victorious, have overthrown the ogliarch

Exhiliration and joy would later come

But slower, slower than the rising sun

Now there is only slow pain

Poisonous, toxic, like the bane

Haunted Bayou

There’s a haunted house just down the way

Near the marshlands, at least, that is what people say

Hush goes the wind, creak goes the shutter

Creak goes an creepy something in an eerie mutter

‘The ghosts cry out if you dare come in’

Said a friend, ‘for it committed a grievous sin’

Now it comes to haunt all those who pass

A strong man past his prime, to the littlest lass

I know that this is naught but lies

I know that nothing in there stays

But cobwebs and spiders, glass and wood

No pale ghost, no murderous hood

I daren't go in though

There is nothing, that I ‘ready know

Someday, someday, I’ll go see

Yet today that someday will not be

Opposites

Everything has to have an opposite quantity

Every material and abstract entity

How is there silence without any sound

How is there sky without any ground

How is there happiness without any sadness

Any calmness without any madness

Any food without any hunger

Any 'on time' without those who linger

Will there be a smile without a frown

Contentment without feeling down

Rebel!

‘The revolt is here, the revolt is here,’ the people say

‘Not yet, not yet,’ the British pray

‘Soon, soon,’ promise the ones who lead

‘We will soon be free, and with great speed’

Nehru, Bharatiyar, Mangal Pande and Gandhiji

Fought to give us democracy and make us free

A poet, a Satyagrahi, a PM, and a sepoy

Helped make a reality of what was once a mere ploy

They delivered us from the bane

And took away that thorny pain

That thought that we were not our own person

That weight that weighed us down, that period of perversion

Smile, my friend.

A smile can make everything right

A smile can resolve a fight

A smile can make you a friend

A smile is a god send

A smile can lose you an enemy

A smile, unlike words will never do the contrary

A smile can give you hope

A smile can help you cope

A smile is sometimes all you need

A smile can help you succeed

FREEDOM

What is this thing that smells so sweet

So close, yet so far

Right outside my threshold if I step

I can have it

But I cannot

So close, yet so far

What to do?

Those evil men can hurt me

Sticks and stones may break my bones

But my mind will never break

This thing, this wonderous thing

This thing that many don’t appreciate

This thing many don't have

This delicious thing called freedom

Through the Veil

I'm writing a new book called Through the Veil. Here is an excerpt           Violet rolled her eyes and tapped Shri’s shoulder. ‘I will...
