The Shooting Stars

We've been waiting for a day and a night
To watch that beautiful sight
The moon gives a soft glow
And excludes a light, not bright but low
As we sit on our blankets on the ground
We whisper and look eagerly around.
So dark, so quiet, not a sound
And the little ants come out their mound
As if their looking for what we are
All old and young and with battle scars
We stare at the sky
As minutes go by.
The younger ones eyes close
The children freshen up from the garden hose
The parents yawn and all eyes begin to droop
And the fireflies do loop the loops
Suddenly it begins! The stars fly through the sky
Along with the stars the minutes go by
All eyes are open drinking in
Those beautiful stars and their beautiful kin
Once the show is over and we go inside
I think about the stars and their ride.
